To line or not to line
Lining your curtains isn’t always possible (lined sheers? Maybe not), but a curtain lining is a sure-fire way to maximise most curtain’s primary purpose - blocking light, retaining heat, adding privacy, reducing noise, etc.
Block-out vs. dim-out
Triple-weave curtains are most often rated as dim-out curtains, meaning they block light but not as fully as blockout curtains. However, some triple-weave curtains can still block up to 95% of light, so depending on your chosen fabric they can be a great option.

Frequently asked questions
As the name suggests, triple weave curtains are made of three interwoven layers, one of which is usually a black thread to add light-filtering and insulating properties.
Triple weave curtains (also known as dimout curtains) do block some light, but they are not 100% blockout and will allow some light to pass through.
The tightly-women fabric of a triple weave curtain does ass some insulation to a room, but without a thermal lining added, they are not technically a thermal curtain. The insulation they provide is due to the thicker material and the tight weave, whereas a thermal curtain usually has a layer of acrylic compound to improve the insulating properties.
Both blockout and triple weave curtains will protect soft furnishings from sun fade, add some thermal insulation, and dull sound transfer. The main difference between them is that a blockout curtain blocks 100% of light while a triple weave curtain will only block between 60-80% of light. A triple weave curtain is also a woven construction, instead of a coating, making it softer and more flowy.
