What sunscreen blinds are best for.
Sunscreen blinds are the best solution for windows where you want to reduce glare and UV without losing the outlook. They let in natural light while significantly reducing glare.
The open weave of a sunscreen fabric can block up to 95% of UV rays, which significantly reduces fading and damage to furniture, flooring, and artwork from direct sun exposure.
Strong NZ sun through a window creates glare on monitors and TV screens. A sunscreen blind reduces this significantly without requiring you to close the room off entirely.
A sunscreen blind on the front of a double roller lets you filter daytime light and protect the view, while the blockout blind at the back provides full privacy and darkness when needed.

Are sunscreen blinds right for your home?
Sunscreen blinds are designed for daytime use. They do not provide full privacy at night. If night-time privacy matters, a sunscreen blind works best when paired with a blockout blind or curtain. Your local consultant will help you choose the right combination for each room.

Frequently asked questions
What is a sunscreen roller blind?
A sunscreen roller blind is made from an open-weave fabric that reduces glare and blocks UV rays while still allowing natural light through and preserving the view. The openness of the weave determines how much light and visibility are retained.
What is the difference between sunscreen and light-filtering blinds?
Both reduce light, but in different ways. A sunscreen blind has an open weave that retains a degree of transparency, so you can see through it from the inside. A light-filtering blind is opaque, which means no view is retained but more consistent privacy is provided during daylight hours.
Do sunscreen blinds provide privacy at night?
No. When interior lights are on at night, the view through a sunscreen fabric reverses: your room becomes visible from outside. If night-time privacy is a priority, a sunscreen blind should be paired with a blockout blind or curtain. Your consultant will advise on the best combination for your rooms.
Do sunscreen blinds reduce heat?
Yes, to a degree. A sunscreen blind reduces solar heat gain by blocking a proportion of incoming sunlight and UV radiation. The level of heat reduction depends on the openness factor of the fabric. For rooms with a significant heat problem, your consultant may also recommend a thermal or honeycomb solution.
What are the advantages of sunscreen roller blinds?
Sunscreen blinds protect furniture and flooring from UV damage, reduce screen glare, maintain the view and natural light, and give a daytime sense of privacy. They are particularly well suited to north-facing rooms with a view and spaces that contain screens or UV-sensitive furnishings.
Can sunscreen blinds be motorised?
Yes. Sunscreen blinds are available with motorisation, making them a practical option for large windows or rooms where you want to adjust light levels frequently throughout the day. Your consultant can walk you through the motorisation options available.
What openness factor should I choose?
A lower openness factor (such as 1-3%) provides more privacy and glare reduction but reduces visibility and light. A higher openness factor (such as 5-10%) retains more of the view and lets in more light but provides less solar control. Your consultant will show you samples and explain the practical difference for your specific window and orientation.

Can blinds be made child and pet safe?
Yes — there are a few easy ways. Any of our chain-controlled blinds can have a chain tensioner added for child and pet safety, at no extra cost. Prefer to do away with cords and chains completely? Motorising your blinds removes them altogether, and several of our ranges also come with a cordless option. Just tell your consultant it’s a priority and we’ll point you to the safest choice for your home.
