Will Elegance Shades give full privacy and darkness?
Elegance Shades adjust between light filtering and greater privacy, but the sheer layer still lets some light and visibility through, particularly at night with interior lights on. If you need full night privacy or a dark room, your consultant may recommend pairing them with a blockout option.

What are Elegance Shades?
Elegance Shades are a dual-layer window furnishing made from a sheer weave that supports a heavier fabric on either side. They adjust between soft light filtering and greater privacy, and are designed to hang beautifully over large doors and windows.
How do Elegance Shades work?
The design layers a sheer panel with solid fabric bands, so you can move between letting light in and increasing privacy. They hang with no weights or connecting chains, which keeps them quiet and lets air flow through.
Are Elegance Shades good for sliding and bi-fold doors?
Yes. They are especially well suited to sliding, French, and bi-fold doors where you want a seamless indoor and outdoor flow. Your consultant will advise on the best setup for large openings.
Do Elegance Shades give privacy at night?
They offer good daytime privacy, but like sheers, they let more through at night when interior lights are on. If night privacy matters, your consultant may recommend pairing them with a blockout option.
Do Elegance Shades block out light?
No. Elegance Shades filter and soften light rather than block it completely. For a fully dark room, a blockout curtain or blind is the better choice, and your consultant can advise on layering.
What is the difference between Elegance Shades and sheer curtains?
Both filter light softly, but Elegance Shades use a structured dual-layer design that gives more control over light and privacy and a cleaner finish over large doors. Sheer curtains are a simpler single-layer fabric.
Are Elegance Shades easy to clean?
Yes. They are made of durable polyester that is washable and fade resistant. Your consultant will explain best-practice care during your in-home consultation.
Are Elegance Shades safe around kids and pets?
They are — Elegance Shades are designed to be chain-free. Choose the wand operation instead of cords or chains and you've got a child- and pet-safe choice, sorted.
Do you do repairs?
Yes, we repair curtains and blinds, but only products that were originally bought through Russells. Depending on your region and installer availability, some repairs can be done on-site or at a local lockup. More technical repairs and alterations come back to our factories in Nelson. If your product is still under warranty, the repair may be covered; if it's out of warranty, charges apply for the van call-out, installer time, parts, shipping, and factory labour. Get in touch and we'll talk you through it.
Do you make insect screens?
No. We specialise in interior window furnishings like curtains, blinds and shutters. Insect screens are not currently part of our range.
Do you clean curtains and blinds?
We don't offer a cleaning service for curtains or blinds. We also don't recommend washing any of our curtains, not even dry cleaning; spot cleaning is best. For the full details, take a look at our Product Care Guide.
