What works best in a bathroom.
The most durable bathroom option. Aluminium will not warp, rust, or absorb moisture, wipes down easily, and gives you precise control over light and privacy by tilting the slats.
Provides the warmth and look of timber without the moisture sensitivity. Faux-wood is made from polyresin, which will not warp or crack in a humid bathroom environment.
A roller blind with a PVC or waterproof-coated fabric is easy to wipe clean, provides a clean minimal look, and is well suited to bathrooms with good ventilation. Not all roller fabrics are appropriate. Your local consultant will confirm which options are suitable.
The top-down/bottom-up operation of honeycomb blinds lets you raise the blind from the bottom for privacy while still allowing light in through the top of the window. Standard honeycomb fabrics are best in well-ventilated bathrooms. Your consultant will advise on suitability.

What is best for your bathroom?
Standard fabric roller blinds, roman blinds, and real timber venetians are not suited to bathrooms. Fabric absorbs moisture and can harbour mould. Timber will warp and crack once moisture penetrates the surface. Your local consultant will recommend the best window furnishings for your bathroom.

Frequently asked questions
What blinds are best for a bathroom in NZ?
Aluminium, PVC, and faux-wood venetians are the most durable choices for NZ bathrooms. They are non-porous, will not warp or rust, and are easy to wipe clean. Waterproof roller blinds are also a practical option for bathrooms with good ventilation. Your local consultant will assess your specific bathroom before making a recommendation.
Can you put roller blinds in a bathroom?
Yes, if you choose a fabric designed for the purpose. Standard fabric roller blinds will absorb moisture and deteriorate quickly. A roller blind with a PVC or waterproof-coated fabric is designed for humid environments and performs well with adequate ventilation in the room.
Are fabric blinds OK in a bathroom?
Most standard fabric blinds are not suited to bathrooms. They absorb moisture, can develop mould, and deteriorate over time in a consistently humid environment. The exception is roller blinds made with a specifically waterproof-coated fabric, which your consultant can identify for you.
How do I get privacy in a bathroom without blocking light?
Frosted window film is one option, but if you want adjustability, venetians are ideal: tilting the slats allows light in while the angle prevents sightlines from outside. Honeycomb blinds with top-down/bottom-up operation also allow you to cover the lower portion of a window for privacy while leaving the top open for light.
Are wooden blinds OK in a bathroom?
No. Real timber absorbs moisture and will warp, crack, or swell over time in a bathroom environment. Even in bathrooms with good ventilation, the daily humidity from showering is enough to cause damage over time. Faux-wood venetians are the right alternative: they look similar but are made from moisture-resistant polyresin.
How do I clean bathroom blinds?
Aluminium venetians can be wiped down with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Waterproof roller blinds can be wiped clean in the same way. Regular cleaning prevents the build-up of soap residue and moisture marks. Your consultant will provide specific care guidance for the product you choose.
What is the best blind for a small bathroom window?
For small bathroom windows, a neat aluminium venetian or a waterproof roller blind is usually the most practical choice. Both are available in narrow widths, take up minimal space, and are easy to operate and clean. Your consultant will measure your window and advise on the best fit.
Should bathroom blinds go inside or outside the frame?
An inside mount offers the cleanest look for bathroom windows but requires adequate recess depth. An outside mount is a practical alternative for shallower recesses and allows the blind to cover a larger area of the wall, which can improve privacy. Your consultant will assess your window and advise on the right mount.
Can blinds be made child and pet safe?
Yes — there are a few easy ways. Any of our chain-controlled blinds can have a chain tensioner added for child and pet safety, at no extra cost. Prefer to do away with cords and chains completely? Motorising your blinds removes them altogether, and several of our ranges also come with a cordless option. Just tell your consultant it’s a priority and we’ll point you to the safest choice for your home.
