Will dimout curtains block all the light?
No. Dimout significantly reduces light but does not eliminate it completely, and some light can pass through the weave or around the edges. If you need total darkness, a blockout curtain is the better choice, and your consultant will recommend the right option for each room.

Frequently asked questions
What are dimout curtains?
Dimout curtains are made from a densely woven or lightly coated fabric that blocks most light and darkens a room, without eliminating light completely. They sit between a light-filtering curtain and a full blockout in how much light they hold back.
What is the difference between dimout and blockout curtains?
Dimout significantly reduces light but lets a small amount through, while blockout is designed to eliminate light entirely. Dim out often has a softer feel and better drape, whereas blockout suits rooms that need to be completely dark.
Do dimout curtains block all light?
No. Dimout curtains darken a room considerably but do not achieve total blackout, and some light can pass through the weave or around the edges. For complete darkness, your consultant will recommend a blockout option.
Are dimout curtains good for bedrooms?
Yes. Dimout is a popular bedroom choice for people who want a darker, more restful room without the firmer feel of fully coated blockout. Lining or a dual track can increase the darkening further if needed.
Are dimout curtains good for a baby's room or nursery?
They work well for daytime naps and general darkening. If you need the room to be as dark as possible for sleep training, a blockout curtain will give a stronger result, and your consultant can advise on the best setup.
Do dimout curtains help keep a room warm?
A heavier dim out fabric offers some insulation, and pairing it with a thermal lining improves warmth noticeably through NZ winters. Your consultant will recommend the right lining for each room.
Will light come in around the edges of dimout curtains?
Some light can appear at the sides and top where the curtain meets the wall. Fitting curtains wider and longer than the window, or using a dual track, reduces this. Your consultant will advise on the best way to minimise light gaps.
Are curtains a good choice if we’ve got kids or pets?
They’re one of the safest choices you can make. Curtains don’t need cords or chains to work, so there’s nothing dangling for little hands or curious paws. We’d steer you away from cord controls — and if you’d rather not draw them by hand (which can mark the fabric over time), a wand or automation keeps things easy and safe. Just ask and we’ll talk you through it.
