What water-resistant blinds are best for.

Aluminium venetians and faux-wood venetians are non-porous, will not warp or swell, and are easy to wipe clean. They are the most durable choice for bathrooms with high daily moisture levels.

Roller blinds with a PVC or waterproof-coated fabric can be wiped clean and will not absorb splashes or steam from cooking. Faux-wood or PVC venetians are also a practical kitchen option.

Laundries generate consistent humidity from washing and drying. A moisture-resistant blind that can be easily wiped down is the most practical choice for this room.

In NZ coastal or high-rainfall areas, windows that experience condensation or weather exposure also benefit from water-resistant blind materials. Your consultant will assess your specific conditions and advise accordingly.

Are water-resistant blinds right for your space?

Not all blinds described as water resistant are equal. Some fabrics resist light splashes but are not suited to persistent steam or condensation. The level of moisture exposure in your room determines which product is genuinely appropriate. Your local consultant will assess each room, advise honestly on the right material, and ensure the blind is fitted correctly.

Frequently asked questions

What blinds are best for a bathroom in NZ?

Aluminium, faux-wood, or PVC venetians are the most durable options for NZ bathrooms. They will not warp, swell, or rust and are easy to wipe clean. Waterproof roller blinds are also a practical choice if you prefer a simpler look. Your local consultant will advise on the best option for your specific bathroom.

What is the difference between water-resistant and waterproof blinds?

Water-resistant blinds are designed to withstand splashes, humidity, and condensation without warping or deteriorating. Waterproof blinds use non-porous materials like PVC or aluminium that are fully impervious to water. For bathrooms and kitchens with high steam exposure, a fully waterproof material is the better choice.

Can you put roller blinds in a bathroom?

Yes, if you choose the right fabric. Standard fabric roller blinds will absorb moisture and deteriorate quickly in a humid bathroom. A roller blind with a PVC or waterproof-coated fabric is designed for exactly this environment and will perform well with proper ventilation.

Are wooden blinds OK in a bathroom?

No. Real timber absorbs moisture and will warp, crack, or swell over time in a bathroom environment. Faux-wood venetians are the right alternative if you want a similar look: they are made from polyresin, which is fully moisture-resistant and will not warp.

How do I clean water-resistant blinds?

Most water-resistant blinds, including aluminium venetians and waterproof roller blinds, can be wiped down with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid soaking roller blind fabrics even if they are water-resistant, as the mechanism and fixings may not be equally protected. Your consultant will provide specific care guidance.

Are water-resistant blinds good for kitchens?

Yes. Kitchen windows near the cooktop or sink benefit from a blind that can be wiped clean and will not absorb cooking steam or splashes. Faux-wood venetians and waterproof roller blinds are both practical kitchen choices.

Can I use the same blind in my bathroom and laundry?

In most cases, yes. Both rooms generate consistent humidity, and the same material guidelines apply: aluminium venetians, faux-wood venetians, or waterproof roller blinds will all perform well. Your consultant will check the specific ventilation and moisture exposure in each room before making a recommendation.

Can blinds be made child and pet safe?

Yes — there are a few easy ways. Any of our chain-controlled blinds can have a chain tensioner added for child and pet safety, at no extra cost. Prefer to do away with cords and chains completely? Motorising your blinds removes them altogether, and several of our ranges also come with a cordless option. Just tell your consultant it’s a priority and we’ll point you to the safest choice for your home.
